BALANCE ELECTRIC ANOUNCES NEXT EDITION! For 4 years now Melbourne based EQ Recordings has been searching locally and beyond for the unsung heroes of the underground with their Electric series. Better known for bringing the mighty Balance series to the fore, EQ has just the right pedigree and vision to ensure that every artist chosen for their compilations share that unique quality trait that makes them shine from the rest of the scene: Artistic integrity.
Electric’s main focus has been those artists that have been toiling away behind the scenes, honing their craft religiously for years at local clubs and events. Artists that work within the scene - the nuts and bolts of the industry if you like - DJ’s that play music not for the recognition or fame, but for showcasing a genuine dedication to introducing fresh and new music to punters. Fitting that ethos perfectly, Gavin Keitel, Nubreed, King Unique, Ben Korbel and Agent 86 have all featured on the past editions of Balance Electric, each showcasing their own unique sound and cementing the fact that no set musical formula are being followed across the series.
Keeping in line with previous compilers, the EQ team has decided to employ a stalwart of the scene with years of experience and an incredible understanding of production techniques; a New Zealand ex-pat who was (is) absolutely adored on the dance floors in his adopted home town of Sydney before he made his move across the ocean to the UK.
Electric proudly presents the antipodean phenomenon: Emerson Todd.
From releasing singles on respected labels like Trapez, Get Physical, Cocoon, Anabatic and Dirty Bird to working as an audio engineer for The Presets, Emerson’s output of late has been prolific. His recent collaboration with Tim Green entitled ‘Exercise’ has been played by everyone from Sasha & Digweed to Richie Hawtin and his recent move to the UK has seen him play alongside some of the world’s biggest acts, including Luciano, Dubfire and DJ Sneak at Circus in Liverpool.
Emerson’s Balance Presents Electric 05 mix is not just a snap-shot of where he is at in 2009, it’s a representation of Emerson Todd’s past, present and future, as reflected in the thoughtful programming and tight mixing that can only be achieved with years of experience. Put on your headphones, dim the lights, and lose yourself in a mix that moves through the many shades of house and techno, from deep and warm to dark and rolling, but never once takes itself too seriously – it is called “dance music” after all Release Date: 11 December 2009 through EQ/Stomp.
