STOMP TOURING ANNOUNCES POISON THE WELL OCTOBER '09 TOUR!!!

Stomp Touring, Blunt Magazine & Bombshellzine Present:

PTW_logo

Poison the Well. Think for a second about just what those three words imply, and you’ll have a good idea of how these South Florida-based post-hardcore titans have approached music since their 1998 debut. With their fifth studio album, The Tropic Rot, Poison the Well reach the apex of the idea behind their name, rolling out a wide-angle take on heavy music that’s so fully realized in its boundary-pushing, it makes it impossible to imagine the genre in any other way.

Fresh off the back of this stunning new album, and following on from mind blowing performances at this year’s Soundwave Festival, Poison the Well return to Australia this October for their very first headline tour.

Audiences will experience a full set of fan favourites from Poison the Well’s ground-breaking back catalogue as well as new tracks from The Tropic Rot:

“If you’re looking for a record that breaks all the rules and dares to go where no other heavy records dare to go, then pick this puppy up and enjoy the ride” – Xpress Magazine

“…this could very well be the album that reclaims the attention of past listeners as well as impressing an army of new ones” – Blunt Magazine

Supports announced in the coming weeks.

POLAR BEAR CLUB SIGNS ON WITH BRIDGE NINE & RELEASE NEW ALBUM ' CHASING HAMBURG'

polarbearclub_chasinghamburgpackshotAfter much rumour-spreading and speculation (that turned out to be true), Bridge Nine Records/Stomp Entertainment and Polar Bear Club are proud to announce that the upstate New York band has officially joined Bridge Nine's ever-growing roster. With their Bridge Nine debut, Chasing Hamburg, named one of the Most Anticipated Releases of 2009 by Alternative Press, Polar Bear Club is already off to an incredible start.

Formed in 2005, Polar Bear Club initially had no expectations of ever becoming a full-time band. Spread out amongst states and time-zones, the band released the EP The Redder The Better before they hit the studio to record 2008's critically acclaimed Sometimes Things Just Disappear on Red Leader Records, which was also named one of AP's Top 10 Most Essential releases of '08. As the interest in the band grew, they dropped jobs, took leaves of absence from school and hit the road with Gaslight Anthem, Crime In Stereo, Broadway Calls, American Steel, A Wilhelm Scream and many more.

Polar Bear Club’s hugely anticipated album Chasing Hamburg is out 4th September through Bridge Nine Records/Stomp Entertainment.

BLACK CROWES RELEASE NEW ALBUM 'BEFORE THE FROST' & GIVEAWAY ANOTHER ALBUM FOR DOWNLOAD

BC_promoshot_aug09

THE BLACK CROWES will release their new studio CD, Before the Frost... via the band's own Silver Arrow label and Megaforce Records/Stomp Entertainment on September 4th 2009. A second album, titled ...Until the Freeze, will be given away for free exclusively through a unique download code included in Before the Frost... CD as a thank you to their fans for two decades of support.

Before the Frost... features 11 new unreleased Black Crowes' studio songs. The free album ...Until the Freeze has 8 new original Black Crowes' studio songs plus a cover version of the Stephen Stills classic "So Many Times."

Before the Frost..., and its corresponding free album ...Until the Freeze, were recorded over a series of five nights at Levon Helm Studios. Although both are studio albums, all the new material was performed and recorded in front of an intimate audience of the band s fans.

Chris Robinson conceived the innovative concept of Before the Frost...Until the Freeze: "I think we fulfilled a musical commitment to continue on the golden road of artistic independence. Approaching 20 years into our careers, we still are ambitious enough to push ourselves to create something unique that we have never done before."

As The Black Crowes approach the upcoming 20th anniversary of their release of one of rock’s most influential records, Shake Your Money Maker, which produced such hits as Jealous Again, She Talks to Angels and Hard to Handle, they are time and again hailed as one of Rock and Roll s best live acts.

Check out the first single ‘I Ain’t Hiding’ on Stomp radio now.

WUNDERKIND WAVVES RELEASES 'WAVVVES' IN OCTOBER THROUGH STOMP

wavves_promoshotWavvves is the second album by the charmingly careless Nathan Williams, better know as San Diego based one man band Wavves.

Wavvves (note: v x 3) is the much blogged about follow up to Nathan's 2008 self titled release Wavves (note: v x 2) and features the US and UK released singles 'So Bored' and 'No Hope Kids'.

A few musings -

A simple stunner that lets you get back in touch with the teenager you wished you were" - Pitchfork (8/10)

"Wavvves is packed with willfully noisy, upbeat pop that's playfully morbid (demons and Goths feature prominently in the lyrics) and totally juvenile - and an utter joy. Only available on import at the moment (will someone please release this locally?), Wavvves is a glorious slab of noise as sunny as it is creepy. Highly recommended." - ThreeThousand

Wavvves is out through Stomp on the 2nd of October.

WHY? BACK WITH ALBUM & RUMOURS OF A TOUR

why_eskimosnow_packshotA year and a half after releasing the acclaimed Alopecia LP, WHY? returns with their fourth album, Eskimo Snow. The two records are each other’s perfect foil: While last year’s release found Yoni Wolf and the gang delivering a tight set of intricate rhymes, live loops, slurred hooks and acerbic wit, Eskimo Snow offers a sung, sobering take on mortality that unfurls in lush waves of Americana and pop-infused psych-folk. Pre-mixed in Nashville by Lambchop’s Mark Nevers (Silver Jews, Bonnie Prince Billy, Calexico) and worked over by Alopecia engineer Eli Crews, this album is WHY?’s most live-sounding yet – a shadowy and sprawling piece as intimate in subject matter as it is handsome in timbre.

WHY? actually recorded Eskimo Snow at the same time as Alopecia, at Minneapolis’ Third Ear studio, with Fog’s Andrew Broder and Mark Erickson rounding out a live quintet. The vision for two separate albums emerged on a snowed-in night after a hot toddy or two. If Alopecia, however inexplicably, maintains a summery tone, then Eskimo Snow captures the bite and resignation associated with the Midwestern winters that these Cincinnati boys grew up with.

There are also rumours on the mill that Why? may just be heading our way this Summer. Check back in the next few week's for more developments. To whet your appetite, check out a live performance of Eskimo Snow by Yoni Wolf on Stomp TV Here.

GUS GUS JOIN KOMPAKT & RELEASE NEW ALBUM THIS SEPTEMBER

GusGus_247_packshotFollowing a whirlwind history spanning more than a decade, Gus Gus, one of dance music's most notorious acts has joined forces with Kompakt following an illustrious run of releases on 4AD, Pineapple and Great Stuff - selling over 5 million records worldwide. '24/7' is a remarkable emotional and matured journey for this legendary Icelandic trio. 6 songs spanning over 50 minutes showcasing their wealth of musical knowledge in creating some of the most turbulent, engrossing pop-techno-house tunes in dance music history.

'Thin Ice' breaks through with it's throbbing bass line - Daniel Agust makes returns to the act since the 4AD years with his triumphant vocal chorus 'I Feel Like Dancing!' that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Their northern souls shine with 'Hateful' - a submerged sounding roller coaster that brings forth their remarkable tact for balancing unnerving frequencies with the bliss of modern pop songwriting. GusGus cover the classic Jimi Tenor tune 'Take Me Baby' and go the extra mile by enlisting Tenor to sing his own song! The result is a modern techno/house floor smasher. The first single 'Add This Song' finishes off '24/7' and is one of the album's true shining moments - the emotional persuasiveness of Daniel Agust's voice will caress anyone through this blissful electro-fied opus.

Check back in the coming weeks for release info. In the meantime, check out 'Thin Ice' live taken at NITSA in Barcelona.

PISSED JEANS RELEASE 'KING OF JEANS' - OUT NOW

PISSED JEANS - King of Jeans

The title of Pissed Jeans’ third album conjures their essence perfectly - masters of the mundane, beasts of the banal, high priests of the humdrum. These four male high school graduates from Pennsylvania hardly look further than their own appendages for artistic inspiration, content to execute their own brand of brash and heavy punk music in the Joe Carducci-approved standard rock formation of guitar, bass, drums and vocals. From simple minds and simple fabrics comes this King of Jeans, perhaps also a slight nod to the variety of Pissed Jeans-inspired groups that have crawled up since 2007’s Hope for Men. After all, there can be only one.

If 2005’s Shallow was Pissed Jeans coping with moving out of their parents’ homes, and 2007’s Hope for Men their initial reaction to the mechanical lifestyle of a wage-earner, King of Jeans is their formal and uneasy acceptance of adulthood. The age gap between the members of Pissed Jeans and high school girls is no longer something to be overlooked—-they hoped for men, and sometimes you get what you wish for. Backs get sore easier and stay sore longer, record collections have reached their breaking point or have been sold entirely, and procreating is becoming a more pressing issue. Working with renowned producer Alex Newport (who has worked with such luminaries as At the Drive-In, The Locust and Sepultura), Pissed Jeans has pushed further into the raw, minimal core of heavy rock music with King of Jeans.

KING OF JEANS IS OUT ON THE 21ST OF AUGUST

TINY VIPERS HEAD OUR WAY THIS SEPTEMBER

Tiny Vipers is touring Australia in September/October 2009, in support of new record Life on Earth out now through Sub Pop / Stomp.

Tiny Vipers, aka Jesy Fortino, a musician living in Seattle, is bringing her sparse and haunting songs to Australia for the first time. Tiny Vipers has just released Life on Earth, her second album on Sub Pop/Stomp. Tiny Vipers' complex yet minimal sound  of her bouyantly deep voice, accompanied by sparse yet deft acoustic guitar, offers mysterious windows into a fragile human soul with a beautiful and hollow vision of experiences beyond. Fortino simultaneously conveys the sadness of trauma and a tremendous natural beauty of untamed wilderness of the human heart and soul.

Transcending the mere folk tag (“She’s not telling stories; she’s after incantation and trance”- New York Times), Tiny Vipers leaves behind her contemporaries. Often compared to Joanna Newsom, Cat Power, the music has been deconstructed into an aether that floats beside the poignant lyrics. Drawing from disparate inspirational sources, from the avant-garde or from country musician Townes Van Zandt, Tiny Vipers' playing is no imitation. Fortino stands on her own, giving a musical life to those themes that inhabit her lyricisms: love found and lost, places come and gone. The persona of this album stands like a mountain watching the world go by, changing so fast. The future annihilates the past, consuming it like a fire.

Since her last and first album, 2007’s Hands Across the Void, Tiny Vipers has been back and forth across Europe, on tours into and through the United States, transfixing audiences into a solemn hush. For those of us not yet lucky enough to see her live, Tiny Vipers' captivating performance on the Burn to Shine 5: Seattle DVD has allowed a glimpse of what to expect from a show. Fortino braves a world at times not ready to contemplate its own doing, she brings honesty to her live performances.

LOOK OUT FOR THE NEW BLITZEN TRAPPER EP 'BLACK RIVER KILLER' THAT'S OUT LATER THIS MONTH

press shot_portraitAs it's title would lead one to believe, Blitzen Trapper's 'Black River Killer EP' contains the disturbing and great song “Black River Killer” taken from the bands excellent September 2008 full-length album Furr. What is perhaps less evident from the title is that it also contains 6 more songs that have been, up to now, only available as a CDR that Blitzen Trapper has been selling at their live performances for the past year or so.

Blitzen Trapper is a group of native Northwesterners, most of whom grew up in Salem, Oregon. They have lived and played together in Portland since 2000. Critics and fans have compared their music to just about everything; there have been calls to coin a new genre. Thanks to the strong media support surrounding Furr and their debut album Wild Mountain Nation in June of 2007, the group have built a strong Australian fan base and will venture to our shores in November this year.

Black River Killer is out on the 28th of August 2009.

THE SPOILS RETURN WITH THEIR 3RD LP 'THE CROOK, THE CLOAKS & THE MAIDEN' THIS MONTH.

Dark romantics, The Spoils return with their third full length album, , a collection of enchanting fairytales of pursuit, regret and frustration.

The quintet reside in Melbourne but have been busy making pilgrimages to Europe throughout the past two years where they have garnered quite a following, especially in France. Within Australia, their popularity has lead them to share the stage with the likes of Bonnie Prince Billy, Catpower and Richard Buckner.

Recorded by ex-'Shower Scene from Psycho' vocalist and recording guru Simon Grounds, The Crook, The Cloak & The Maiden is a departure from the gypsy-pin-stripe suited Goodnight Victoria, which was released at the end of 2005. The introduction of instruments such as the Indian drone box, musical saw and vibraphone compliment the sweeping strings and bravado horns, whilst the narrative at times nods towards dark fairy tale rather than film noir.

The Spoils launch the album in their one and only Australian show this spring at The Toff In Town, Melbourne – Saturday 5th of September before they return to Europe in mid September. The band will return to Australia in early November 2009 for a National tour.

Click Here to listen to tracks off the album

The Crook, The Cloak & The Maiden is out through Stomp on the 21st of August, 2009

JAMES LAVELLE MIXES THE LATEST GLOBAL UNDERGROUND ALBUM - BANGKOK

JamesLavelle_promoshot_aug09James Lavelle is not scared of fear. Of being scared. Of stepping outside of the safety zone and going where he’s never been before. This is his most radical Global Underground mix to date. But instead of choosing a city and a crowd that knew him and his sound to premier it, Lavelle went for a club he’d never played in before in a city he barely knew: 808, in Bangkok. “I didn’t know what I was getting into. I felt like I was stepping into the unknown,” he said. But he took that step. And in the sweltering Bangkok night, the crowd went with him.

It’s been a long five years since UNKLE’s James Lavelle released his second mix album for Global Underground from Romania.  It followed his series debut from Barcelona, which was hailed as one of the finest and most timeless albums to come out of Global Underground.

James of course has been busy touring the world with his 9-piece band UNKLE and releasing UNKLE albums to critical acclaim.  The worldwide UNKLE Live tour included sold out Brixton Academy and Somerset House shows as well as an end of tour finale headlining Creamfields Buenos Aires.  All this while continuing to tour the world as an international DJ.

Lavelle DJs using CDs, but for this Bangkok mix he wanted to push the technology available as far as he could and spent months working on it. In Sri-Lanka on holiday, he couldn’t leave it alone and found something much more melodic and optimistic than his previous dark room Global Underground mixes emerging. In Ibiza, supposedly writing for the new UNKLE album, he was back on the mix again. It was finished in London. But the combination of two balmy climes have given his Bangkok set a tropical warmth. “It has a sunset, sunrise field, and somewhere like Bangkok fits that. I wanted a spiritual feeling, something euphoric, something that would hopefully make you smile. Watching the sun come down, you put your CD on, you have your madness, then the sun comes up and you have your beauty.”

"I’ve not done an official mix for 5 years so a lot has changed with the music I play and I wanted the mix to show people where I’m currently at.   Its a lot more uplifting and not so after hours so I wanted it to be a record you could listen to as the sun goes down and the night begins going on to then watch the sun come up again; a more personal experience! It contains new, exclusive, recent and old records, tracks that have been defining my sets over the past few years."

"Its a lot more technology influenced as that has become part of what is exciting about DJ’ing these days, it was constructed over the last 6 weeks in Sri-Lanka, London, Ibiza and Bangkok."

"I’m really excited to get this out."

AUGUST BURNS RED RELEASE 'CONSTELLATIONS' & ANNOUNCE A TOUR WITH PARKWAY DRIVE

August Burns Red have kept their heads down, conquering fans at Warped Tour, on the Take Action tour and at destinations from Dubai to Dallas, and increased their profile through placement of their beloved take on "Carol of the Bells" on the movie trailer for "The Spirit."

The band returned to the studio to record its hotly anticipated follow-up to 2007’s “Messengers” with lauded producer Jason Suecof (Sevendust, All That Remains, Trivium). The result, "Constellations," a crushing metal tour de force, the album pushes ABR's trademark aural blitz into directions previously unexplored by the band.

One of the year's most anticipated metal albums, "Constellations" makes good on the promise of the past two years, and serves as proof-positive that August Burns Red's success is no mere solar flare-up. This supernova's here to stay. "Constellations" is available now.

SIGHTS & SOUNDS UNLEASH THE DEBUT LONG PLAYER 'MONOLITH' THIS MONTH

Hailing from Canada, Sights & Sounds are vocalist/guitarist Andrew Neufeld, drummer Joel Neufeld, bassist Matt Howes, and guitarist Adrian Mottram. Featuring members of notable bands such as Comeback Kid, Sick City and Figure Four, the band is comprised of a unique and talented group of musicians with a collective knack for creating music that is refreshing and interesting. Their acute dedication and musical capability is evident both in their live show and on their debut album "Monolith", and these qualities are bringing Sights & Sounds to the attention of audiences worldwide.

Citing bands such as Mew, The Police, Sigur Ros and Lifetime as influences, Sights & Sounds is able to create something that is as much music as it an incendiary celebration of life and friendship.

Produced by Devin Townsend (Darkest Hour, Misery Signals, Bleeding Through), Monolith is a collection of intricate songs that straddles the line between sonically massive and a beautiful experiment in textured sounds. The result is an exceptional album full of post-hardcore and punk influences, placed seamlessly over hints of far-eastern melodies - creating songs that are as aggressive as they are imaginative.
