MELBOURNE LOCKED OUT - PROTEST THIS FRIDAY!

lockedout_smallMelbourne Locked Out - The official protest is on TOMORROW, 30th May at 5pm. Meet at Treasury Gardens, on the Corner of Flinders and Spring Street.

FACTS

MelbourneLockedOut.com is a pressure group formed by the public in protest against the harmful 2am lockout policy. We are calling on public and media scrutiny of the proposed 1/4 year trial and demanding a postponement of the trial pending a full investigation by an independent committee.

What we are doing
We are holding one of the largest protests in Generation Y’s history at Parliament house on Friday the 30th of May at 5pm. We intend to voice our concerns and issues in relation to the proposed declaration.

What we want
We want the proposed lockout trial to be postponed. We want to sit down with the government, police and licensees as representatives of the public, and come up with real solutions rather than just another Band-aid Brumby policy.

What the lockout is?
The lockout is a declaration (act of martial law used during war times) that says that nobody may enter a licensed premises after 2am even if you have already been inside that venue. Exemptions include pokie and keno littered RSL’s, Crown Casino and Bottle shops.

MARK RAE'S NEW PROJECT HITTING SHELVES SOON! LOOK OUT FOR YES KING

Yes KingTake Mark Rae (a figurehead of the UKs soul/hip hop music scene, formally of Rae & Christian) and Rhys Adams (groove hound producer/writer DJ extraordinaire of Rocker’s Hifi fame), send them to Jamaica and the result is Yes King

Yes King shuffle pieces of hip hop, dancehall, disco, ragga and ska to craft a truly textured and smoking good sound that is laid down on their new album ‘Rock This World’. Rooted in Jamaica, the sound retains a strong London vibe and creates a new atmosphere for the dance floor.

The album also features an eclectic array of guest vocalists including Ayak (2004 Prince’s Trust Urban Music Award Winner); Dawn Penn (vocalist on dancehall classic ‘No, No, No’); and Veba (Vocals for Rae & Christian- ‘Spellbound’) amongst others.

While recording the album, artists would greet the Duo with “Yes King” (a traditional Jamaican greeting). Mark and Rhys felt the saying captured the essence of the project, and settled on Yes King for the name of the group. The album was completed in Ladbroke Grove and features the iconic Trellick Tower as the cover art. An area in London synonymous with Jamaican music, Mark Rae, Mystro and Sweetie Irie have all lived Ladbroke Grove area at some point in their lives.

BAND OF HORSES SIDE SHOWS ANNOUNCED

boh_NEWRiding high on the freewheeling success of their recently released Cease To Begin album, Band of Horses return to Australia this August for a series of east coast shows. Having deservedly experienced a somewhat rapid ascent via their raggedly epic 2006 record, Everything All The Time, Band of Horses has delivered a passionate & confident follow-up in Cease To Begin, this time embracing flourishes of country & southern rock (they are South Carolina natives after all!) into their sparkling, dreamy and evocative songs.

Cease To Begin has also very much allowed the band to shed all the obvious comparisons that were made around the first album (The Shins, My Morning Jacket, The Flaming Lips) & what we have now is a very self-assured group making some of the most cathartic, exuberant & exciting rock music anywhere in the world.

Don't miss Band of Horses when they play in Australia this August.

HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT - JUMP IT'S BONES SOON

HMPL_smallThe wait is over!!  Finally, after countless bootlegs have circulated across the globe, the 16 minute cult legend that is 'HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT' is being released on DVD on June 29th.

Videotaped in a concert arena parking lot before a Judas Priest show in '86, HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT is truly the most magnificent portrait of dirt-rockin', headbanging, booze guzzling, dope smokin', trailer trash America has ever seen. It's truly an ingenious masterpiece, made complete with the vast display of bare feet, muscle shirts, bare-chested guys, bleach blonde frizzy perms, mullets from hell, BIG hair, bad teeth, scar tissue, and by far, the largest collection of late '70s Camaros ever seen in one location.

"Basically [it's] Rock n' Roll 101" - Dave Grohl on Heavy Metal Parking Lot.

BEN KORBEL MIXES ELECTRIC 03

Ben Korbel_smallEQ’s Balance presents Electric series is back after a short hiatus with another exciting installment, this time mixed by Australian DJ and connoisseur Ben Korbel. The third in the Electric series won’t disappoint those fans expecting nothing less than cutting edge underground dance music, showcasing a seamless fusion of deep house and techno expertly blended by one of Australia’s leading DJs.

To say this release has been a long time coming for Ben Korbel is an understatement. Electric 03 is his debut mix proper and it’s a decade in the making. Ben’s peerless sense of lineage, his irrepressible passion for a great tune and his impeccable programming and mixing are all a given; what you get here is warmth, soul and a humane groove that lacks in the click-and-drag age. From the first flutters of Luciano, through the liquid funk of Der Dritte Raum to the classic stabs and washes of LFO this mix provides a consummate selection of the finest producers from the underground house and techno scene, also including the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Swayzak, Pikaya, Rob Mello and more…

If you’ve ever heard Ben play, you’ll have no doubt sprained vocal chords or twisted cheek muscles bouncing around like a sweaty beach ball to one of his impeccably delirious sets. Complementing Ben on his expertise at any time is always met with unbridled humility but those who’ve met him know not to be perplexed if he calls you Paddle Pop lion then chases you down the street with a face full of clothes pegs. It is, quite simply, how the lad rolls.

Electric_03 CD Launch Tour dates:
June 7th, Melbourne @ 161
June 8th, Sydney @ The Cross
June 14th, Brisbane @ Barsoma

CRAFTER LEAVES THE BIG BROTHER HOUSE!!!!

iktpq_crafter_smallAlmost as quickly as Michael Crafter of IKTPQ was voted into the Big Brother house, he's been sent back out again!  Fans who were worried the front man wouldn't be out out in time for the tour had their minds put to rest after IKTPQ suggested on their myspace blog that Crafter was going to fight his way out.  Alas, no fighting was needed as Crafter was the number one choice by 'mature' housemate Terri, who said the reason for her decision was that Crafter had already achieved what he had set out to do on Big Brother - prove he was the most popular person in Australia (to which Crafter added "on the internet").

Here's what Crafter had to say about his time:

"So everyone, BB was good fun... I was there for a short time but that's all I needed. I didn't expect to last and didn't want to last due to the iktpq final tour.  So I was going to walk out either way.  Corey was a good kid.. No matter what the media has said about him.  It got so boring in there though and the shit food kinda killed it for me.  I'm way more glad to be home.  So.... go check out the set"

Watch Crafter leave the BB house now.

I Killed the Prom Queen set out on their 'Say Goodbye' farewell tour on May 22nd, kicking off in their hometown of Adelaide.  Michael Crafter has been invited back to the re-formed band to provide vocals for this tour.  Their 2006 full length album 'Music for the Recently Deceased' is set to be re-issued on May 17th with bonus tracks (feat. Crafter), video and also a sticker.  This special tour edition is limited to 5000 copies, which will be individually numbered.

CRAFTER FOR BIG BROTHER??

iktpq_crafter_smallI Killed the Prom Queen has recently reformed for the 'Last Goodbye' farewell tour of Australia, but will Michael Crafter be seen on another stage before the shows begin?  IKTPQ vocalist Michael Crafter auditioned for Big Brother and was last seen in 3rd place for entry to the house as voted for by fans online.  The votes have been counted, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see if the notorious Crafter will be gracing our screens....

"I’m pretty much the most famous person that has applied for this thing - Righsy might have more - but no, cos I’m mates with Winston… I played in a band in America called Bury Your Dead, umm, theyre actually pretty big so imagine how many chicks sent me pictures of them in the nude… I actually have a real girlfriend… after all the years I went on tour and pashed babes. I’m actually a semi-famous myspace celebrity." -Michael Crafter, 2007.
