NEW ALBUM FROM NORMA JEAN CALLED 'The Anti-Mother' OUT ON AUGUST 16TH

pressshotProduced by Ross Robinson (Slipknot, At The Drive-in, Korn), The Anti-Mother is the heaviest and most personal album in Norma Jean's arsenal and that's saying something.

With their 2002 Solid State Records debut, Bless The Martyr And Kiss The Child, Norma Jean established themselves as one of the noisiest and most adventurous young bands in metal today. With the 2005 follow-up, O‚ God, The Aftermath, drummer Daniel Davison, bassist Jake Schultz, and guitarists Chris Day and Scottie Henry welcomed new vocalist and Arkansas native Cory Brandan to their lineup and took their artful, technical noise to the proverbial next level, earning critical acclaim and a 2006 Grammy nomination.

Norma Jean has cut a path in metal music and continues to push boundaries and push limits, on The Anti-Mother Norma Jean create a symphony of discourse and chest pounding songs.  A perfect addition to an already astonishing catalogue of music, The Anti-Mother once again shows why Norma Jean are the leader in the genre they helped to create.

NEW VIDEO FOR 'A CERTAIN DEATH' BY MISERY SIGNALS

MS_bandshotMisey Signals has released the video for "A Certain Death", taken from the album Controller. The video was directed by David Brodsky who has directed videos for The Black Dahlia Murder, All That Remains and Helmet.

The live performance footage of the band wasn’t shot in a film studio with CGI effects as vocalist Karl Schubach relates, “We filmed our scenes in a burnt down hotel in a abandoned town in upstate NY. It was definitely condemned, I don’t know how they got us in there but it was dark, dirty with gutted wood beams, blackened walls and if you weren’t careful you could fall into the basement that was flooded with some kind of liquid.” Guitarist Ryan Morgan added “It’s a pretty abstract video so you have to focus on the visual elements to figure out what’s going on.”

NORMAN JAY PRESENTS GOOD TIMES LONDON.

NJ_albumcoverNorman Jay is arguably one of the finest and most respected deejays in the world, an experienced radio and television broadcaster, MBE holder and compiler of the celebrated ‘Good Times’ compilation series. He's back with the latest installment - Good Times London

The latest in the series focuses on tracks that have a “London sound” whether from Norman's rare groove origins, the 80s heydays of boogie and house, or his favourite contemporary artists.

It’s not lightly that Norman Jay is referred to as “The Godfather”; he’s been instrumental in every dance music movement in the UK over the past 30 years. From being a guiding force in bringing disco, house and hip hop to the UK, setting up Kiss FM and helping launch the careers of many of London’s top DJs including Giles Peterson (with who he ran record label Talkin Loud), Judge Jules, Trevor Nelson and Soul II Soul's Jazzie B, Norman’s influence reaches every facet of modern club culture.

However, it’s the ‘Good Times’ brand that he’s become most synonyms with. Emerging to become the Notting Hill Carnival’s un-official ambassador, Norman Jay’s party has become the dominant attraction at the annual event. Not just constricted to Carnival, ‘Good Times’ has a worldwide appeal with Norman’s regular DJ tours popular in countries such as Australia, USA, China, Japan, SE Asia, South Africa, South America, Russia and the Middle East.

Good Times London features 24 killer tracks across 2 cds from artists as varied as Chubb Rock to the great Ella Fitzgerald, from genres such as Reggae, Modern Jazz, House, Drum N Bass, Soul, Funk, Disco and R n B selected and sequenced by the one and only Norman Jay in true Good Times style. Includes very rare and sought tracks from Ray Charles, Lou Rawls The Dramatics & Maynard Ferguson.

INTRODUCING DEATH VESSEL

DV_albumNothing Is Precious Enough For Us was written and sung by Joel Thibodeau. It is unlike anything you’ve ever heard. People will call it many things. Few will get it right. This is Death Vessel.

Death Vessel’s debut album Stay Close was released in 2005 to critical acclaim. Since it's release Death Vessel has toured with Iron And Wine, Low, Jose Gonzalez, and The Books, among others. Recorded with long time producer/collaborator Pete Donnelly (The Figgs) at his New Jersey studio, and various locales across the northeast, Nothing Is Precious Enough for Us is Death Vessel’s Sub Pop debut.

While in recent years Joel has toured primarily as a solo performer, and the songs are inarguably mesmerizing and relevant in that setting, on record they take on a new life, thanks to his and Donnelly’s inspired, and often unusual, arrangements, and the contributions of numerous friends and players. The album exudes wide-scope ambition. Its musical reach is fully extended—-deep into the past, grounded in the present and nodding to the future. With Joel’s singular spirit, unique soprano vocals and musicality, the songs sound as progressive, experimental and modern as they do antique and old-world. The music is haunting and spiritual, mysterious and kind, ageless and contemporary, soulful and psychedelic.

“Now I am versed in silence / my throat hurts, not from yelling but from holding back” Joel sings on “Block My Eye,” the album’s opening track. And that’s ok, because the music speaks for itself. And nothing ever sounded so loud, and so clear.

BERLIN BASED SUPERSOUL RECORDINGS RELEASES ALBUM ON DFA'S SUBLABEL - DEATH FROM ABROAD

SupersoulBerlin-based Supersoul Recordings will release a label compilation on DFA’s sublabel Death From Abroad in August.

Founded by Xaver Naudascher (Gigolo, K7!) in 2006, Supersoul releases new twists on classic electronic music genres like Italo Disco, Electro, Chicago House & Detroit Techno. Every artist featured on the Supersoul label has drawn inspiration from these music styles in different ways. It is this combination of styles and artists that makes Supersoul one of the most distinct and distinguished labels to emerge in ages and one of the few seemingly fit and ready to carry the heritage of dance music far into the future.

Entitled Nobody Knows Anything, the collection should highlight Supersoul’s solid discography and sense of humour. If you need any more convincing, the label provides this vivid description of its music on the press release of the first twelve inch released on Supersoul Recordings– ““If Mos Eisley had an underground dance club, it‘s resident DJ would be Xaver Naudascher. His hi-tech lunar disco beats would be shaking the transparent dance floor overlooking nebulas and neighboring galaxies. Androids and other strange creatures would be dancing, smoking and drinking casually alongside humans, while the full spectrum stroboscopes makes their bone structure visible to the rhythm of the music.”

Death From Abroad was created by the team behind New York's DFA Records -Tim Goldsworthy, musician James Murphy (LCD Soundsytem) and mutual friend Jonathan Galkin -  from the frustration of not being able to obtain certain records from overseas non-US based artists. The goal of this label is to act in unison with DFA in showcasing great new music but with Death from Abroad the focus is squarely on new talent from outside the US and across the world.

Nobody Knows Anything is a collection of tracks that Berlin based Supersoul Recordings has put out via vinyl and digital in their first two years of existence.

SUB POP TURNS 20!

Sub PopSub Pop - the legendary indie imprint responsible for introducing Nirvana, Soundgarden, Iron & Wine & The Shins - is celebrating 20 years in 2008!

Sub Pop was started by Bruce Pavitt in 1979 as a fanzine called Subterranean Pop (which was changed to Sub Pop starting with the 2nd issue). Inspired by the cassette fanzine Fast Forward, Sub Pop began alternating issues with compilation tapes of American bands.

In 1986, Pavitt released the first Sub Pop LP, the compilation Sub Pop 100. In 1987, Sub Pop released the Dry As A Bone Ep by Green River. Later that year, KimThavil of Soundgarden suggested that Pavitt team up with Jonathan Poneman .The pair then decided to release the debut EP by Soundgarden entitled Screaming Life effectively turning Sub Pop into a full-fledged record label. Over the next few years, Sub Pop released many hugely influential records from independent rock artists such as Nirvana, Mudhoney, Soundgarden & Tad.

An important and notable aspect of the label's early days was the Sub Pop Singles Club a subscription service that would allow subscribers to receive singles by independent bands on a monthly basis by mail. The first release of the Singles Club was also Nirvana's first single, Love Buzz/ Big Cheese, in November 1988. The club made Sub Pop a powerful force in the Seattle scene, and effectively made the label's name synonymous with the music of the Seattle area, much in the same way Motown Records was to Detroit.

Bruce Pavitt and  Jonathan Poneman have decided that April 1, 1988 "the day they quit their jobs and rented a tiny office in the Terminal Sales Building in Seattle " was the day Sub Pop Records was born!
