NEW ALBUM FROM DETROIT GRAND PUBAHS COMING SOON

packshotFollowing on from their recent run of singles ‘Birth in Zero Gravity’ (hailed as “an electronic opus “ by Dave Clarke) & Thanks For Coming, and the soon to be released socially conscious funk-rock of Rollin’ Papers & Bush , the Detroit Grand Pubahs hit back with their new studio album Nuttin Butt Funk. Nuttin’ Butt Funk is the first DGP album specifically made for the clubs.

Nuttin Butt Funk features Baby Face Fensta, who has recorded with the Wu Tang Clan, Amy Douglas, JaGOff, and the latest Pubahs addition Mitch Marcus pka Lalin.First single is “SkyDive From Venus” which sold out immediately featured Underground Resistance / Red Planet producer Gerald Mitchell aka The Deacon & Jerry The Cat who also records with Theo Parrish & Moodyman.

On ‘Nuttin’ Butt Funk’ you can hear the Pubahs flexing their production muscle across wigged-out electro on cuts like ‘Earth Hoes’, ‘Dirty ‘Ole Man’ and ‘Butt Market’, straight up dancefloor techno on ’50.000 Legions’, ‘ChiTown Shuffle’ and ‘Message From Overkill’, strung out Detroit deepness as exemplified by the beautiful opener ‘Skydive From Venus’, the odd comedy interlude (‘Condom-Mints’ anyone?) and twisted funk-rock as highlighted by next single ‘Rollin’ Papers & Bush’ and the demo mix of hidden track ‘Rebel Music’ (Living Room Edit).

The original Pubahs started out on tiny indie ‘Throw’ label, releasing the underground club hit ‘Sandwiches’. Subsequently signed to Jive, they scored a pop hit in a number of countries and an underground classic worldwide. They’ve also taken their live show to another level, with Paris the Black Fu donning multiple costumes and personalities and encouraging the crowd to participate in the funk.

Their debut LP, “Funk All Y’all,” a mixture of funk, techno and a healthy dose of the bizarre, was a call to arms for techno get down like a sex machine whilst the second long player, ‘Galactic Ass Creatures From Uranus’ on Steve Bug’s Poker Flat imprint, spawned two  club hits with ‘The Clapper’ and ‘Big Onion’ and torched the way for big bottomed, velvety cheeked electro-house.

The Pubahs now run their own label, Det.Ele.Funk (or to give it its full title ‘Detroit Electro Funk’) and the now Geneva based Paris has been busying himself with various other projects including guest vocals for The Advent,The Lotterboys, & Marc Romboy as well as his new production project Filth & Dirt with Dave The Hustler.

The Pubahs are touring all over the world in support for the album.  One of the band members for the Pubahs live shows is Randall Lynch who was one of the session musicains for George Clinton / Parliament Funcadelic

If techno is Kraftwerk jamming with George Clinton in an elevator then the Pubahs have got Spike Milligan on drums, Richard Pryor on bass and the Barry White on vocals.

But the Pubahs are no novelty act. There is method to the madness and bass in the badness.

DUFF MCKAGAN'S 'LOADED' SIGN WORLDWIDE DEAL WITH CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS

loaded_promoshotThe hard rock world is about to get a nice, swift kick in the ass as the Seattle-based sonic force 'Duff McKagan’s LOADED', led by the current Velvet Revolver bassist, has returned after a lengthy hiatus with their much anticipated, new full-length release. The quartet has signed a worldwide deal with Century Media Records and a Limited Edition five song EP “Wasted Heart” will be issued on September 27th.

The new offering was recorded by Martin Feveyear (Kings of Leon) and is set for an early 2009 release.

McKagan is excited: “We are truly looking forward to this partnership with Century Media. I am encouraged that they indeed understand the spirit and integrity of Duff McKagan's LOADED. This first EP should shed some light on who we are, what we do and how the fuck we do it!”

McKagan, having carved out a place in rock 'n roll history selling millions of albums with the legendary Guns N’ Roses, requires no lengthy introduction. However, with Duff McKagan’s LOADED he gets a chance to further show his songwriting prowess and versatility assuming the role of vocalist/guitarist. This is an all out assault of pure rock and punk infused fury that pulls no punches.

Duff McKagan’s LOADED was formed in 1999 and has morphed several times, releasing two albums: 1999's “Live Episode” and 2001's “Dark Days”. The current line-up features drummer Geoff Reading (New American Shame, Green Apple Quickstep), bassist Jeff Rouse and guitarist Mike Squires (both formerly of Alien Crime Syndicate). This tight-knit group of rock n’ roll brothers brings their high-energy to every stage, from Seattle's Sunset Tavern to Tokyo's NK Hall.

CHAD VANGAALEN IS BACK WITH A NEW ALBUM - 'SOFT AIRPLANE' OUT ON SEPTEMBER 13

softairplane_coverChad VanGaalen’s musical roots date back to the first part of the decade, when he made a living busking on the streets of Calgary. He is also an accomplished animator and illustrator whose music is very much informed by his appreciation of visual arts. He has produced a voluminous wealth of material, by himself, at a rate that might best be described as alarming. Whatever his motivation for doing what he does, or creating what he creates, the result is that it is always both genuine and good. The proof is in the songs themselves. They have heart. They have pain. They have hope. They have humour. Most importantly, they have fun.

Recorded on a Tascam 4-track and other analogue devices, using synthesizers, guitars and a collection of his own handmade instruments, Chad’s first two LPs, Infiniheart (2005) and Skelliconnection (2006), were wildly eclectic and ethereal, texturally imaginative, sometimes ambitious and sometimes restrained.

Recorded primarily on an old tape machine and a JVC ghetto blaster in Chad’s Calgary basement, Soft Airplane retains the handmade charm and singular character of his previous records, while incorporating new layers of sophistication and weight. Recalling Neil Young at his most fragile and plaintive, and Thurston Moore at his most resolved and vital, Chad’s emotive vocals anchor these songs while tackling the pervasive themes of death and dreams with an unexpected air of certainty and hope that is far from ominous—instead it’s luminous. Through a complex interplay of guitar, drum beats, loops, samples, found sounds, unorthodox percussion, xylophones, distortion, synthesizers, accordions and more, Chad has made an album that sounds bigger than one man.

THE MOONDOGGIES 'DON'T BE A STRANGER' OUT THIS WEEK THROUGH HARDLY ART/ STOMP.

packshotThe Moondoggies is a 4-piece band from Seattle that play timeless American music. Warm three-part harmonies, gothic Rhodes organ, and wanderlust guitar mark a sound rooted in boogie blues and cosmic country; whip-smart songwriting leads to hook-heavy tunes that bristle with originality, exemplary on the debut album, Don't Be A Stranger.

Led by 22-year-old singer/guitarist Kevin Murphy, The Moondoggies are intent on artistic balance. They're a serious band with a silly name. They play music that speaks of travel but is strongly connected to its place of origin. They're young musicians continuing a legacy that goes back generations. Songs that unravel over seven sinuous minutes are somehow catchy and compact.

"I don’t think sitting down and playing guitar is an old-time thing," Murphy recently told The Seattle Times. "Our sound is what seems to happen when we sit around and sing and play. It's never going to get old. People will always do that."

The album is instores from the 30th of August.

CEREMONY IS BACK WITH A NEW ALBUM & AUSTRALIAN TOUR

ceremony_albumCeremony are a full scale musical riot spawned from the rotting corpse of Bay Area California hardcore. A throwback to the early days of hardcore and heralded by many as one of the best hardcore/punk bands to surface in the last decade, this September/October Ceremony will make there first trip to Australia in support of their brand new album Still, Nothing Moves You.

Recorded with Dan Rathburn at Polymorph studios in the Spring of 2008, Still, Nothing Moves You is an album that takes hardcore and makes it unsafe and noisy. It is by no means a casual listen. Still Nothing Moves You is pure venom and unrestrained anger. It is hard for a band to follow up with a new album after their previous efforts have been thought of as 'masterpieces', but after two solid years of plotting, planning and writing, Ceremony made a record that will undoubtedly shake things up in an otherwise stale, predictable, and safe music scene.

Still, Nothing Moves You is out now through Bridge 9 / Stomp

CRAZY P SIGN TO 2020 VISION & WILL RELEASE AN ALBUM THIS OCTOBER

Crazy P press shot2020 Vision & Stomp are proud to announce the signing of live disco purveyors Crazy P who release their fourth album 'Stop Space Return' in October 2008.

Crazy P’s pedigree as recording artists is clearly documented by three superb previous albums - their first two classics‘A Nice Hot Bath With’ and ‘The Wicked Is Music’ on Paper Recordings and their last album ‘Night on Earth’ on Shiva, which sold over 20,000 copies.

The latter proved to be a massive step up for the band, making them bona fide stars in Australia, New Zealand and the UK as well as cementing their reputation as highly respected songwriters. Pete Tong became a huge fan and rotated the singles constantly on Radio One and invited the band to record a live session in the Maida Vale Studios. Singles 'Sun Science' and ‘Lady T’ went on to become Ibizan sunset and festival classics and found their way into countless compilations.

Only a small handful of dance acts can put on a proper live performance, and Crazy P are part of this unique group. They’re a band that gets the party started (surviving sound failures, streaking naked across festival campsites and winding up at numerous after-parties) with headline performances at The Big Chill, Good Vibrations in Sydney, Dance Village at Glastonbury, The Garden Festival in Croatia, plus also having supported Faithless on their 2005 stadium tour across the globe.

Stop Space Return captures Crazy P at their peak and magically blends their influences of classic NYC House,Disco, 80’s pop influences (The Blockheads, The Police, Talking Heads) and the sultry vocals of Donna Summer or Patrice Rushen. Lead singer Danielle Moore is now a fully paid up member of the band, alongside original duo James Baron (keys) and Chris Todd, adding her vocals to every track. The general uplifting mood of the music is tempered by her vocals as she manages to use feelings of heartache as an underlying inspiration, giving the album a bittersweet feeling.

Look out for the forthcoming single Love on the Line, out October 6.

UNEARTH COMPLETE NEW ALBUM ' THE MARCH' - OUT THIS OCTOBER THROUGH METAL BLADE/STOMP

promoshotInfluential metal quintet UNEARTH have completed work on their new album. Entitled The March, the record is scheduled to drop on October 18 via Metal Blade Records / Stomp.

The March was recorded at both MA’s System Recording Studios and Zing Studios with producer Adam Dutkiewicz. The album is said to feature UNEARTH’s “most dynamic material to date,” combining strong tension and release, abundant guitar solos and a bulldozing power-groove.

On the topic of the new album, UNEARTH front man Trevor Phipps states, “'The March' symbolizes both the evil and hopeful sides of humanity. The Evil: With the constant balancing act of power within government, religion and our financial institutions, there lies the chance of those most hungry for power to alter and restrict our freedoms for their gain. The Hopeful: This represents the faith in mankind as the most powerful force on the planet. If we come together and do not fight over religion, class and borders then we hold the key to a peaceful world. There are two possible futures in store; either a March of power and greed or a March of a unified human race.”

Unearth_themarchcoverThe final track listing for The March is as follows:

1.) My Will Be Done
2.) Hail the Shrine
3.) Crow Killer
4.) Grave of Opportunity
5.) We Are Not Anonymous
6.) The March
7.) Cutman
8.) The Chosen
9.) Letting Go
10.) Truth or Consequence

NEW KIMYA DAWSON ALBUM - ALPHABUTT - OUT THIS SEPTEMBER

Alphabutt_albumcoverPopfrenzy and Stomp are proud to announce the release of Kimya Dawson’s new studio album, ALPHABUTT. Set for a September 13th release, ALPHABUTT is a collection of children’s songs written by Dawson along with a number of her musical friends and their children.

Having recently completed her first Australian and New Zealand tour - selling out every venue with over 4000 attendees over seven shows - Kimya’s new album is without a doubt the biggest step in her amazing musical story.

Hailed by the likes of Rolling Stone, NPR, Blender and Pitchfork as a seriously talented wordsmith, Dawson successfully leads a group of children in this sunny and energetic batch of songs with plenty of fun in the form of snapping fingers, clapping hands and stamping feet.

ALPHABUTT follows up the highly successful soundtrack to JUNO, which featured many of Dawson’s songs. Like Dawson’s previous releases, ALPHABUTT, succeeds by being tender and vulnerable, silly and raw while maintaining the intimacy and sense of community that has become so special to both fans and critics.

GOING UP, BY KIDDA! OUT SOON THROUGH SKINT RECORDS & STOMP

AlbumcoverKidda AKA Ste McGregor has been making videos for Skint Records for the last decade, but ten years later he's releasing his own album for the label, Going Up (out Aug 16). Having previousy released on Catskills, Kidda has also done remixes for Pepe Deluxe, Parker, Fatboy Slim & the Beastie Boys.

Going Up is a unique mix of Northern Soul, Electronica, Hip-Hop and Funk, that features The Beatnuts, Blak Twang, Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody and Lomax.

Under The Sun' is an early stand-out, picked up by Bacardi for their current UK ad campaign, and boasts a killer loop taken from a version of ‘You're All I Need To Get By' sung by Nancy Wilson.

VIP' is a straight-up New York hip hop track a la DJ Premier, The Beatnuts and DITC, with Psycho Les from The Beatnuts delivering the party-hardy and Brighton's DJ Buckwilde providing the chunky cuts. ‘Good For You' is another chopped-up soul nugget that pinches from a James Carr tune. ‘Shining 1' is a glorious slice of drive-time heat for the album, given the Midas touch by Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody.

And finally, ‘Smile'- representing the madness, variety and whole musical journey through which the album travels. The sample is ‘Loving Me, Loving You' by Sandra Wright, pitched up to take it away from the chilled soul vibe of the original, and building into a big-hearted soul loop. Destined to be a big hit with clubbers, it's an unashamedly feel-good dance song.

Check out the video for Smile here, an animation that takes its inspiration from the film Napoleon Dynamite.

TIGERCITY SIGNS TO BEN WATT'S 'STRANGE FEELING LABEL'

Album coverBen Watt’s Strange Feeling imprint announce the signing of Brooklyn 4 piece, Tigercity!

Tigercity's well-combined guitar-driven rock and electronic pop has them compared to acts such as Hall & Oates, Roxy Music, Talking Heads & Scritti Politti. On Pretend Not To Love, they've managed to mash an impressive amount of our favorite (both guilty and non-guilty) pleasures into one easy-to-digest electro driven indie pop package.

They began making a name for themselves early in 2006, with the addition of Andrew Brady & drummer Aynsley Powell. Their tight live sets soon caught the attention of Rolling Stone when the band was featured in their ‘Breaking‘ section.

They’ve been touring heavily for the past 2 years & have shared the stage with acts such as Jamie Lidell, M.I.A, Junior Boys, The Rosebuds , VHS or Beta and David Cross to name a few.

Strange feeling lable logoLaunched in late 2006, Strange Feeling Records is the sister imprint to Ben Watt’s acclaimed house and techno label, Buzzin’ Fly Records, and a new home to the alt-indie and electronic pop.
