NEW ALBUM FROM DETROIT GRAND PUBAHS COMING SOON Following on from their recent run of singles ‘Birth in Zero Gravity’ (hailed as “an electronic opus “ by Dave Clarke) & Thanks For Coming, and the soon to be released socially conscious funk-rock of Rollin’ Papers & Bush , the Detroit Grand Pubahs hit back with their new studio album Nuttin Butt Funk. Nuttin’ Butt Funk is the first DGP album specifically made for the clubs.
Nuttin Butt Funk features Baby Face Fensta, who has recorded with the Wu Tang Clan, Amy Douglas, JaGOff, and the latest Pubahs addition Mitch Marcus pka Lalin.First single is “SkyDive From Venus” which sold out immediately featured Underground Resistance / Red Planet producer Gerald Mitchell aka The Deacon & Jerry The Cat who also records with Theo Parrish & Moodyman. On ‘Nuttin’ Butt Funk’ you can hear the Pubahs flexing their production muscle across wigged-out electro on cuts like ‘Earth Hoes’, ‘Dirty ‘Ole Man’ and ‘Butt Market’, straight up dancefloor techno on ’50.000 Legions’, ‘ChiTown Shuffle’ and ‘Message From Overkill’, strung out Detroit deepness as exemplified by the beautiful opener ‘Skydive From Venus’, the odd comedy interlude (‘Condom-Mints’ anyone?) and twisted funk-rock as highlighted by next single ‘Rollin’ Papers & Bush’ and the demo mix of hidden track ‘Rebel Music’ (Living Room Edit). The original Pubahs started out on tiny indie ‘Throw’ label, releasing the underground club hit ‘Sandwiches’. Subsequently signed to Jive, they scored a pop hit in a number of countries and an underground classic worldwide. They’ve also taken their live show to another level, with Paris the Black Fu donning multiple costumes and personalities and encouraging the crowd to participate in the funk. Their debut LP, “Funk All Y’all,” a mixture of funk, techno and a healthy dose of the bizarre, was a call to arms for techno get down like a sex machine whilst the second long player, ‘Galactic Ass Creatures From Uranus’ on Steve Bug’s Poker Flat imprint, spawned two club hits with ‘The Clapper’ and ‘Big Onion’ and torched the way for big bottomed, velvety cheeked electro-house. The Pubahs now run their own label, Det.Ele.Funk (or to give it its full title ‘Detroit Electro Funk’) and the now Geneva based Paris has been busying himself with various other projects including guest vocals for The Advent,The Lotterboys, & Marc Romboy as well as his new production project Filth & Dirt with Dave The Hustler. The Pubahs are touring all over the world in support for the album. One of the band members for the Pubahs live shows is Randall Lynch who was one of the session musicains for George Clinton / Parliament Funcadelic If techno is Kraftwerk jamming with George Clinton in an elevator then the Pubahs have got Spike Milligan on drums, Richard Pryor on bass and the Barry White on vocals. But the Pubahs are no novelty act. There is method to the madness and bass in the badness.
