DE WOLFE MUSIC LIBRARY JOINS STOMP! Crate Diggers & Hip Hop fans take note! The world’s largest independent production music library, de Wolfe Music, is set to release its first commercial albums. De Wolfe will re-issue some of the finest tracks from the depths of its back-catalogue as a series of collectable compilations. The albums will each be themed and will group sought-after film cues and production music into similar respective genres and styles.
De Wolfe music has soundtracked the likes of Dr Who, cult 60/70s TV themes, horror flicks such as George A Romero's Dawn of the Dead, the Shaw Brothers Kung Fu flicks, the early Emmanuelle films and a whole plethora of first generation soft core porn. Its catalogue is a thing of legend! In recent years De Wolfe tracks have been sampled by the likes of Mark Ronson, Jay Z, Ja Rule & Deadly Avenger. The catalogue of music libraries such as De Wolfe have proven a treasure trove of unearthed beats & breaks and valued as a source of samples and prime raw material for hiphop producers. 'Bite Harder' is the first in the series and has been compiled by Joel Martin, one half of Quiet Village. Its the long awaited follow up to the daddy of all library albums, Bite Hard, originally released on BBE back in 1997. 'Bite Hard' sold in excess of 30k copies worldwide. It was the first album of its kind and prompted De Wolfe tracks to be sampled & pillaged by many hiphop artists such as Jay Z and Kool G Rap. 'Kung Fu Super Sounds' is the second in the De Wolfe re-issues series, collecting unreleased music from the Shaw Brothers Kung Fu movies. The Shaw Brothers martial arts movies are the absolute year zero for Kung Fu flicks. John Woo & Jackie Chan- modern masters of international martial arts movies, are both graduates of the Shaw Brothers Studio.
The Shaw Brothers movies are the acknowledged inspiration behind Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill series of martial arts movies and the album features sleeve notes from Quentin himself. Other devotee’s of Shaw Brothers movies include the Wu Tang Clan– the RZA named their debut album after a 1978 Shaw Brothers movie, 'The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin & Depth Charge'. J Saul Kane used the same logo as Shaw Brothers and sampled them to death. This series of re-issues and anthologies are the first of their kind for De Wolfe and will form a highly collectable series. Most of the De Wolfe albums will be released on CD & very limited edition vinyl format which will feature full explanatory sleeve notes. Posted: Wednesday, 7 November 2007 |
