CSS PLAY V FESTIVAL!

CSS lrgCSS, aka Cansei de Ser Sexy (meaning "tired of being sexy" in Portuguese) seem anything but tired or un-sexy as they bring their raucous blend of fizzing, punked up electro-rock-dance to V Festival 2008. Anyone who witnessed CSS when they toured Australia earlier this year will know that the Brazilian sextet evoke fun from the moment they step foot on stage.

2006 saw them release their upbeat and energetic self titled debut album through Sub Pop, which stemmed radio favourites 'Alala' and 'Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above'. For those who haven't yet been fortunate enough to come across CSSfear not because as we speak the band are invading your televisions with their track 'Music Is My Hot Hot Sex' being featured on the new iPod Touch ad. Check it out HERE.

Love-from-above disco indie party people CSS are guaranteed to get you on your dancing feet so you can expect to hear alot more from them in 2008!

iPOD TOUCHED BY CSS' HOT HOT SEX

CSSThe song is "Music Is My Hot Hot Sex" by CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy) and it features in the commercial for the worldwide campaign of the new Apple iPod Touch. This cheeky track is taken from their self-titled debut album, "Cansei De Ser Sexy” (Sub Pop).

Check out the new ad HERE

Cansei De Ser Sexy (Portuguese for “tired of being sexy”) captures the essence of Brazilian culture and the interaction it has with art and pop culture abroad. Meeting through clubs and photo blogs the garage rock band initially bonded over art and fun. Four years ago in Sao Paulo, the band headed into the basement and the collective known as CSS picked up instruments irrespective of their ability to play them. Lovefoxxxxx, Ana, Carolina, Luisa, Ira and the one lucky lad Adriano create a style of music that is their own, that transcends boundaries both geographic and genre, and ultimately an experience where loose beats and manic hooks become synonymous for fun.

LOW SUMMER TOUR

Low1Returning to Australia this summer at the invite of the Sydney Festival, the Don't Look Back Concert series and for a national run of club shows are the Duluth Minnesota trio, Low. They will perform material from their latest album 'Drums and Guns' in a series of shows across Australia, including New Zealand.

For the very first time this summer, Australia will host the special Don’t Look Back series. Low are playing two rare performances of their unforgettable album 'Things We Lost in the Fire' for the classic album series.

"It's a beautiful record, gentle as snowflakes, lyrically incisive, a touching and dreamy piece of work that has earned Low their place in the inaugural Don't Look Back line-up." - The Independent

Low are no strangers to the Don't Look Back concept, having performed the same album in London back in 2006 to an overwhelming response.

"As the lengthy album unfolds, the band's beguiling harmonies grow richer, songs ebb and flow and the crowd swoons and bursts with applause. It's enchanting and absolutely compelling, a fantastic gig." - The Independent.

As usual, audiences can expect the trademark intensity of a Low performance, counterbalanced by the gorgeous harmonies of husband and wife team Alan Sparhawk (guitar) and Mimi Parker (percussion). Matt Livingston completes the trio playing bass and pump organ.

IRON AND WINE AUSTRALIAN TOUR ANNOUNCED!

I&W
Iron and Wine (aka Sam Beam) made a long awaited return this year with his third full-length album, The Shepherd's Dog. To coincide with the release, Sam will be making a long awaited return to Australia in March 2008. Coincidentally it will be his third visit to these shores, yet the first since 2004. The new album, whilst continuing Beam's tradition of beauty and quality, marks a massive leap in vision. The arrangements are kaleidoscopic and lush, encompassing a massive swathe of interwoven musical influences and sounds derived from a myriad of instruments, all drawn together by Sam Beam's inviting, honeyed vocal. Taken as a whole 'The Shepherd's Dog' is a dreamscape that comes to life, and while we always knew there was something very special about Sam Beam, we had no idea he was capable of this.

Naturally to perform such intricate and wonderful music is going to require a band of some substance, so Australian audiences will in fact be treated to the new, full Iron and Wine line-up for this series of shows.

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF DEF MIX CLASSICS

Def Mix x 200

Def Mix: Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Satoshi Tomiie and Hector Romero.

Why does Def Mix hold such a legendary position within the House music scene? Perhaps it’s because one of its clan, Frankie Knuckles invented House music, or because another of its crew, David Morales is arguably the most influential producer/remixer of all time. Or perhaps it’s that Def Mix just happens to be one of the most successful dance labels to come out of America.

Whatever the reason might be, the entire Def Mix crew have come together for the first time to celebrate their 20th Anniversary by collaborating on a release that reflects the historic moments of House over that period. "Def Mix Classics" is a compilation of the most memorable tracks from their discography, this album contains 12 top 40 dance smashes along side some of the greatest underground anthems in House music.

Hear the album and check out the classic tracklisting HERE!

PUNK'S NOT DEAD DVD RELEASE 12TH NOVEMBER 2007

PND Header

Punk’s Not Dead is more than just a tribute documentary. It takes you on a journey that puts punk rock’s non-conformist reputation under the knife. The directorial debut from one-time punk photographer Susan Dynner, Punk’s Not Dead follows the evolution of punk music in the United States from its anarchic roots, to its use as a corporate marketing tool and acceptance into popular culture, to its reinvention in today’s underground scene. Officially sanctioned by the bands in the documentary who donated personal photos, fliers and home videos, it boasts interviews with new and legendary performers such as Henry Rollins (Black Flag), Ian Mackaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi), Dexter Holland (The Offspring), Pete Shelley (The Buzzcocks), Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) and Tim Armstrong (Rancid) and many more.

Dynner’s first hand experience of Washington DC’s punk scene in the eighties and her continued love of punk music spurred the making of this self-financed, independent documentary true to the D.I.Y. spirit of punk culture. Punk’s Not Dead combines intelligent, insightful commentary with live performances, behind-the-scenes anecdotes and a killer soundtrack.

DE WOLFE MUSIC LIBRARY JOINS STOMP!

Bite HarderCrate Diggers & Hip Hop fans take note! The world’s largest independent production music library, de Wolfe Music, is set to release its first commercial albums. De Wolfe will re-issue some of the finest tracks from the depths of its back-catalogue as a series of collectable compilations. The albums will each be themed and will group sought-after film cues and production music into similar respective genres and styles.

De Wolfe music has soundtracked the likes of Dr Who, cult 60/70s TV themes, horror flicks such as George A Romero's Dawn of the Dead, the Shaw Brothers Kung Fu flicks, the early Emmanuelle films and a whole plethora of first generation soft core porn. Its catalogue is a thing of legend!

In recent years De Wolfe tracks have been sampled by the likes of Mark Ronson, Jay Z, Ja Rule & Deadly Avenger. The catalogue of music libraries such as De Wolfe have proven a treasure trove of unearthed beats & breaks and valued as a source of samples and prime raw material for hiphop producers.

'Bite Harder' is the first in the series and has been compiled by Joel Martin, one half of Quiet Village. Its the long awaited follow up to the daddy of all library albums, Bite Hard, originally released on BBE back in 1997. 'Bite Hard' sold in excess of 30k copies worldwide. It was the first album of its kind and prompted De Wolfe tracks to be sampled & pillaged by many hiphop artists such as Jay Z and Kool G Rap.

'Kung Fu Super Sounds' is the second in the De Wolfe re-issues series, collecting unreleased music from the Shaw Brothers Kung Fu movies. The Shaw Brothers martial arts movies are the absolute year zero for Kung Fu flicks. John Woo & Jackie Chan- modern masters of international martial arts movies, are both graduates of the Shaw Brothers Studio.

The Shaw Brothers movies are the acknowledged inspiration behind Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill series of martial arts movies and the album features sleeve notes from Quentin himself. Other devotee’s of Shaw Brothers movies include the Wu Tang Clan– the RZA named their debut album after a 1978 Shaw Brothers movie, 'The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin & Depth Charge'. J Saul Kane used the same logo as Shaw Brothers and sampled them to death.

This series of re-issues and anthologies are the first of their kind for De Wolfe and will form a highly collectable series. Most of the De Wolfe albums will be released on CD & very limited edition vinyl format which will feature full explanatory sleeve notes.
